‘Twas the Night Before Comic-Con…

San-diego-comic-con

‘Twas the Night Before Comic-Con, when all through the house

Blaise was not stirring, neither was the mouse,

His bags were packed and placed by the stairs,

In hopes that he would soon be up in the air;

Chris was nestled all snug in his bed,

While visions of Hall H panels danced in his head.

Chris in his Always Keep Fighting tee, and I in my Sinceriously tank;

Had settled our brains for a week that would be dank.

Year’s ago, when I first discovered my passion for movies, television and all things pop culture, I knew that I would have to go to San Diego Comic-Con at least once in my lifetime. While it always seemed like a pipe dream, tomorrow it will come true, as Chris and I head out bright and early to San Diego. Yes, we will be representing Awesome Mix Podcast as well as the other website we contribute to, TVOvermind.com, as press.

It still hasn’t fully kicked in that I’m headed to one of my dream destinations, and I’m sure that it won’t feel like reality until I step onto the plane tomorrow. SDCC  gets kicked off tomorrow night with the exclusive, “Preview Night,” that allows some of the guests to come experience the pilot episodes of the anticipated new Fall shows as well as the opportunity to check out the booths and everything they offer.

Throughout the week, Chris and I will be attending multiple TV related round tables for some of the most popular shows such as Archer, Outlander, iZombie, The 100, and more. All of the coverage will be audio translated into articles aside from The 100, which we will be conducting in-person video interviews with the cast and creators. We will also be attending plenty of panels as well as other popular events such as the Nerdist Podcast with guests Masie Williams, Tom Hiddleston and Guillermo Del Toro, Conan’s: “Not Your Grandma’s Bingo,” and a couple of NerdHQ events.

We plan on getting our content out as soon as possible when we return to the hotel room each night. This is something we’ve both been looking forward to for years and plan on making the most of it. I even plan on writing about my experience waiting for exclusives (if I get any). A lot of good stuff should come out of this week and we want to be timely and informative with it all.

This is really a dream come true for both of us, and we’re excited to document the entire journey.

Follow both of us on Twitter for live updates as we are experiencing everything, and even feel free to follow me on Snapchat where I will be adding tons to my story.

Spider-Man will be Similar to a John Hughes Movie

32441_comics_spiderman

Everyone is extremely excited to see Spider-Man finally coming back home and joining the MCU. News continues to pour out about the character and his solo film; we know that Spidey will make his first official appearance in next years, Captain America: Civil War and young 19 year old actor, Tom Holland, will be portraying the character.

Some interesting information has now released that provides some very minor details about the solo Spider-Man film that is scheduled for a 2017 release. During interviews at a screening for Ant-Man, Kevin Feige said that Spider-Man’s solo film would be comparable to a John Hughes coming of age film. Hughes created some of the 80’s best films in classics such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Home Alone, The Breakfast Club, as well as tons more.

Personally, I think this is a good thing to hear. A large part of Spider-Man as a character is watching him grow into adulthood while having to manage being a hero on top of it. Marvel is making a smart decision to have this movie not be a complete origin story but I really am glad to see how much emphasis they want to put on the character to really build him.

Marvel is really nailing their characters and crafting the movies around that, which makes them feel unique and less generic for “just the superhero movie for this year.” I think that Spider-Man will be a huge hit because while he is one of the most universally loved characters, there is a rich background of story-telling if done right. Civil War will be a huge way to introduce the character because in the comics, this is a situation that really defines who Peter is as a person.

I’m really looking forward to Spider-Man and think that it will be a huge success. I really like Tom Holland for Peter and think that Marvel’s input will finally give us a stable and proper representation of Spider-Man on the big screen.

Marvel Not Attending SDCC

San Diego Comic Con is the place to announce and reveal anything relating to superheroes in any form, and in the past decade it has been the exclusive place to learn new info about all of the upcoming DC and Marvel films.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn announced today that the company wouldn’t be appearing at SDCC this year, which is a huge disappointment to fans. While it makes sense for Marvel to save all of their reveals for the D23 Disney expo later on in the year, Comic-Con has always been the place to go for all of the reveals.

Sigourney Weaver Will Be Playing a New Character in Avatar Sequels

It’s been a long time since the release of James Cameron’s Avatar, but there are still two sequels on the way. The follow ups to the 2009 Oscar nominated film are scheduled to film back to back and release in 2017, 18, and 19 if they do well and go according to plan. It feels like Avatar has become a real afterthought at this point so it will be interesting to see how much people want to see them.

The first film needed “appropriate technology” according to Cameron and received mixed feelings from a bunch of people. Sigourney Weaver announced that she will be returning but playing a completely new character that has yet to be announced. It seems like Cameron is finding more ways to complicate the Avatar universe even more but we won’t really know until these films are released.

Neighbors 2 is Coming in 2016

After a shockingly surprising success in the box office with a total of $269 million in the worldwide market, Neighbors will be getting a sequel. The movie received great ratings and drew in a huge crowd that loved watching Seth Rogen and Zac Efron on screen together.

Both Efron and Rogen will be returning along with Rose Byrne and director Nicholas Stoller will be back again as well. The movie’s plot is definitely a mystery but has to revolve around more of the same with hopes that it can live up to the audience love for the first one. While this could completely destroy the single success they discovered in the hidden gem, it will definitely draw people out to the theater in what will hopefully be another massive payday.

Right now, Paramount has Neighbors scheduled for a May 13, 2016 release date which will have some stiff competition and have to compete with Disney and Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.
